The History of Country Delight

|
William Basse started Basses Country Delight back in the late 1920s in Greendale Wisconsin.
He moved to Muskego in 1937, planted apple trees, and began producing sweet corn.
William also founded a Guernsey cattle herd and was one of the founders of Golden Guernsey Dairy.
This picking ladder was one if his inventions for the picking of apples for the farm stand.

William prided himself on production of quality apples and sweet corn.
Here is a picture of William and Rose Basse selling apples in 1957 at the corner of Janesville Road
and Martin Drive. This original market location was moved to the east by 400 yards back in 1989
to accommodate the larger produce and dried goods offering.

The beginning market was just a set of benches and bushels. Apples were often picked
and carted directly to the market for sale. On rainy days, Basses Country Delight was closed.
The public appreciated the quality of the produce which allowed Country Delight to grow.
